Major features of this composite imply a conducting polymer network as well as the integration of recycled carbon fibers, a challenge overcome for the first time in the formulation of a positive electrode. The result is a one-of-a-kind electrode exhibiting a total electrode capacity of 141 mAh\/g and an energy density of 468 Wh\/kg. This is possible in part, because the recycled carbon fibers ensure sufficient mechanical stability and conductivity to allow for removal of \u00ab\u00a0dead-weight\u00a0\u00bb metallic current collector used in commercial batteries.
